Museum Quality Indigo Tube Sarong
Museum Quality Indigo Tube Sarong
Finding this museum-quality ikat tube sarong was nothing short of a pilgrimage. We learned of Mama Katherina from Threads of Life, a wonderful NGO based in Ubud, Bali, that promote the artistry of tribal women across the Indonesian archipeligo.
On the island of Flores, this artisan creates masterpieces like this, which has been repeatedly dipped in the ingigo dye pot to give the deep, rich shade of indigo. Mama Katherina explained to us that the images of seed, temple, elephant and yoni (womb) represent Matriarchy, the divine feminine. She wore this tube sarong for special ceremonies for about 5 years, so it is surely infused with the maker's essence.
Useful as wall art or personal adornment, "art to wear". 64" around, 72" long, plus tie strings for "shoulders". All cotton, natural indigo and other dyes.
Materials: 100% cotton, indigo dye
Origin: Flores Island, Indonesia
Artist: Mama Katherina
