Museum Quality Double Ikat
Museum Quality Double Ikat
Double ikat is a very complex hand-weaving form found in only 2 communities in the world; one of these is Tengannen, Bali, where this weaving was hand-selected.
Double ikat requires that the very threads are tied and dyed prior to weaving, and it is this precise dyeing and weaving that produces the geometric patterns. This sacred cloth, called grinseng, is left "uncut" and hence, the power is still contained within the piece. Wayan, the weaver, demonstrated how slowly the weaving is done. Double ikat is rare and collectible.
Size: 9.5 " x 51". natural dyes, handspun cotton.
