January 26 - February 10, 2019*

Join intrepid traveler Kim Hammer for a mid-winter adventure on the Romance India 2019: A Tour for Art Lovers!

  • Tour 7 beautifully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Sites in northern India, which include forts, palaces, mausoleums, an astronomy observatory and old cities.

  • Experience the Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum, a world-class display of early 20th century history, and stroll through the gardens where the “Father of India” spent his last 144 days.

  • BY POPULAR REQUEST! Learn creative photography from Master Photographer Rohit Guatam on a walking tour through peaceful gardens and old temples in Delhi, the nation’s capital.

  • Behold the exquisite Taj Mahal, the world’s incomparable symbol of eternal love!

  • NEW THIS YEAR! Tour the world-famous indigo village of Bagru. Then, create your own Indian scarf using the age-old technique of block-printing, using authentic hand-carved wood blocks and pigment inks under the guidance of expert teachers.

  • Explore the exquisite and ornate Amber Fortress-Palace near the Pink City of Jaipur; the royal architecture was created in the 16th century by the trusted general of the Emperor Akbar.

  • Appreciate the ornate Meherengarh Fort and its historical museum in the Blue City of Jodhpur, with lunch overlooking a restored step well.

  • Soak up the home-cooked food and hospitality in a small-village homestay with a family of dhurrie rug-weavers in desert Rajasthan. Take a village safari to see wildlife and local Bishnoi culture.

  • Observe artisans creating beautiful clothing and other textiles, statues and jewelry, and other local handwork.

  • Wander through the painted havelis (mansions) located along the Silk Route, some decaying and others exquisitely restored, in the world’s largest, and very photogenic, outdoor art gallery. Lunch at the restored Haveli Nadine Le Prince.

  • At the start and the finish of the tour, enjoy meditative reflection in the Lotus Temple and within the devotional atmosphere of the       Sikh Temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.

  • Walk along the holy lake at Pushkar, said to be created when a flower dropped from the Hindu god Brahma’s hand to the earth.

  • Your meals (vegetarian and chicken) are generally ordered “family style”, with dishes to share, so that by the journey’s end, you will have experienced a wide array of Indian food and local Rajasthani cuisine.  Alternatives (Chinese and snack foods) are available in most places.

  • .Your accommodations are included, with mid-level (roughly 3 star) hotels chosen for their beauty, cleanliness, customer service and/or convenience to other sites, and the tour fee is based on twin-share rooms.  We do our best to provide locally-owned hotels committed to responsible tourism.  There are no international, luxury chains; many are art-filled or operate as a social enterprise.

The India Tour Fee is $2950, and includes breakfast, most lunches and dinners, admission to all sites and guides, private driver with vehicle, airport transfers, and the escort fee of your tour leader, and is based on shared occupancy.  Not included in this fee:  your international flight, tipping, a few meals, personal expenses, and expenses when you veer from the group.  For single occupancy, add $400.  This small group tour is limited to 4-8 persons.
